VIFF's year end BEST OF series has become one of the most popular staples in the annual programming. It’s a chance to bring back some favourites and throw a spotlight on some gems that may be were overlooked before. This year’s selection features 15 titles. Seven of them are directed or co-directed by women. Two of them are Canadian, including Vancouver’s own The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open. One of them is a theatrical premiere for Vancouver, Jennifer Kent’s colonial nightmare, The Nightingale. There are two documentaries, nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up and Honeyland. There is one film from Latin America (Monos), one from Africa (Atlantics), one from Australia (The Nightingale); one from China (Ash is Purest White); three from Europe and six from the US. The selection reflects the quality, diversity and depth of this year’s cinema.
I was tasked with creating the sizzle reel and supporting ads for social media. The sizzle reel ran both online and cinema during the lead-up to the series
